The book and exhibition of “The Last Herd” which looks at Operation Centaur and their work with the Royal Parks’ Shires is progressing at a good pace.  I’ve had two good pieces in the Daily Express, including a double page main Saturday feature and this has been followed up by the local TV news.  Now the first complete chapter is done with the mowing of the meadow at Ham House.  Firstly the hay was cut with a reciprocating mower, then the teams new side delivery rake was used to bring the hay into windrows. Lastly the shires, Heath and Tom, pulled a low loader that was filled using traditional pitch forks and the hay was taken off to Home Farm at Hampton Court Palace, where it can be dried and used as feed or bedding for the horses during the winter months.

Having this first finished chapter is a boost to the book as it gives a real form to the project and we are now almost in a position to launch the crowd funding on the book…. Watch this space!
